Managing Google Business Profiles for a franchise means that all your locations' profiles are set up, monitored and updated centrally, while each location remains locally unique. In Dutch they are called Google Bedrijfsprofielen. For a chain, profile management is the foundation of local visibility, and often the area where most mistakes are made.
In brief: Google Business Profiles
- A franchise brand is best off managing its Google Business Profiles from a single organisation account owned by head office.
- Location groups and clear roles prevent former employees or departed franchisees from keeping access.
- For ten or more locations, Google offers bulk verification.
- Every location gets the same brand rules, but its own services, photos, opening hours and reviews.
- Our benchmark showed that only 40% of 500 chain profiles were fully completed.
- We manage profiles per location from €99 per month, with monthly checks.
How do you set up the account architecture for a chain?
The foundation is a single organisation account in the name of head office. Under it, you place the locations in location groups, for example by region or by type of location. Staff and agencies are given roles in those groups, not on personal accounts. Franchisees receive limited permissions at most. That way the brand stays protected when someone leaves or a location changes hands.
| Role | Who | Permissions |
|---|---|---|
| Primary owner | Head office (functional account) | Everything, including transfer |
| Location group owner | Marketing team | Management of all profiles in the group |
| Manager | Franchise-Marketing.nl | Editing, posts, reviews |
| Local input | Franchisee | Submitting via a fixed route, no management rights |
How do you verify many profiles at once?
For businesses with ten or more locations, Google offers bulk verification. That saves a lot of time compared with verifying each location individually. The condition is that the details of all locations are correct and comply with Google's guidelines, such as a real name without extra keywords and an address customers can visit or a correctly configured service area.
For new locations, we arrange verification before the opening, so the profile is visible from day one.
Which mistakes do we see most often in chain profiles?
In the Local SEO Benchmark Franchise Ketens 2026, we studied 500 profiles of the 100 largest Dutch franchise chains. Only 40% were fully completed, and just 7% of the chains used the WhatsApp integration. The most common problems:
| Mistake | Consequence |
|---|---|
| Duplicate profiles for one location | Reviews and visibility become fragmented |
| Profiles managed by former employees | No more control over the brand |
| Wrong or overly general category | Location does not appear for relevant searches |
| Holiday opening hours missing | Customers at a closed door, bad reviews |
| Keywords in the business name | Risk of suspension |

How do you make each profile locally unique within the brand rules?
With a fixed brand standard and local content. Centrally, we set the categories, description structure, photo requirements and tone for responses. For each location, we fill in the services, attributes, opening hours, photos of the team and premises, posts and the link to the location's own page. That way Google recognises every location as a separate, relevant place. What that location page looks like is described in local landing pages per location.
What does monthly maintenance look like?
Profile management is never finished. Google and users can suggest changes, reviews come in every day and opening hours change around public holidays. That is why we work with a fixed cycle.
| Frequency | Tasks |
|---|---|
| Daily | Monitor reviews and questions, reverse unwanted changes |
| Weekly | Publish posts and offers |
| Monthly | Check photos, services and attributes, measure rankings |
| Quarterly | NAP check on the website and in citations |
| Before public holidays | Special opening hours for all locations |
How do profiles relate to reviews and AI visibility?
The profile is where reviews appear and where AI assistants get a lot of their local information. A complete profile with recent reviews and responses increases the chance that a location will be recommended. That is why we combine profile management with answering reviews per location and, in the Full service package, with visibility in ChatGPT and AI Overviews. If you want to hand over the entire local package, read outsourcing local SEO.
What happens to a profile when a location changes owner?
If head office's organisation account is the owner, the profile simply remains, with all its reviews and history. Only the local details and the team are updated. If, on the other hand, the profile belongs to the departing franchisee, it has to be transferred, and that does not always happen quickly. In our experience, this is one of the main reasons to arrange ownership properly in advance. We include the transfer in the playbook for a change of ownership, so the location is not invisible for a single day.
Who is behind this approach to Google Business Profiles?
Behind this page is a permanent team with no revolving door of account managers. Founder Gijs Bodenstaff (local SEO specialist since 2010, Google Product Expert, author of three books on the local visibility of chains) maintains contact with head office. Angela analyses visibility and leads per location, Elisabeth manages local advertising, Peter builds local authority and ten regular freelancers take care of profiles and reviews. Every figure on this page has a source; where we speak from our own experience, we say so.
