Below you will find 24 franchise marketing ideas, grouped by channel. For each idea we state who carries it out and roughly how much time it takes. The ideas were chosen on the basis of our Local SEO Benchmark for Franchise Chains 2026: there we saw that only 40% of 500 profiles were fully completed and that only 6 of the 100 chains responded to reviews within 24 hours. So the quickest gains are often in the basics, not in a new campaign.

Ideas for Google Maps and the Business Profile

  1. Complete every field for each location, including attributes and services.
  2. Set holiday opening hours two weeks in advance.
  3. Have every location upload three of its own photos each month.
  4. Post a weekly update with a local promotion.
  5. Check the primary category for each location.
  6. Connect WhatsApp or messaging, if you can keep up with it. In the benchmark, 7% of chains did this.

You can read how to manage this at scale under profile management for all locations.

Ideas for reviews and reputation

  1. Agree a 24-hour response time and measure it.
  2. Send a review request after every visit or appointment.
  3. Create a tone-of-voice guideline, not a standard text.
  4. Notify the location manager within an hour of a negative review.
  5. Each month, thank the location with the most new reviews.
  6. Log fake reviews centrally to spot patterns.

Ideas for AI visibility

  1. For each location, write answers to the questions people ask ChatGPT.
  2. Make sure the name, address and phone number are identical everywhere.
  3. Put an FAQ on every location page.
  4. Test ten questions in ChatGPT, Gemini and Google AI Overviews every month.

More on this under visibility in ChatGPT and AI Overviews.

Ideas for social media, email and local actions

  1. Supply a monthly content pack with room for local input.
  2. Have franchisees publish one post of their own each week.
  3. Send emails with the location as the sender.
  4. Sponsor one local initiative per location per year and mention it on the location page.
  5. Organise an open day using a standard playbook template.
  6. Team up with neighbouring businesses for a joint promotion.
  7. Run local Google Ads around each location, with a fixed base budget.
  8. Share results in a monthly report per location.

Ideas by season and who carries them out

Many franchise brands work with an annual calendar. Link the ideas to moments in the year, so that franchisees know what happens when. Head office prepares, the location delivers locally. That keeps the workload per location small, and every action can also be found locally, because the Business Profile and the location page move in step with the national campaign. Always plan the preparation six weeks ahead: that leaves time for templates, approval and updating opening hours.

How do you know whether an idea works?

An idea is only good if you can see the difference. For each idea, choose in advance one figure that should move, and compare a group of locations that takes part with a group that changes nothing yet. That way you avoid mistaking a seasonal effect or a national campaign for the result of your action. Three months is usually enough to see a direction; for reviews and profile photos it is often quicker.

Keep the measurement simple. The Google Business Profile shows views, direction requests, calls and website clicks per location. For reviews, count the number of new reviews and the average response time. For AI visibility, record each month for which of ten fixed questions the location is mentioned. Share the results with the franchisees who took part: nothing convinces a hesitant colleague more than a location in the same region that is visibly improving. Not managing to keep track of this yourself? We arrange a standard monthly report per location through a KPI dashboard for chains.

Start with no more than three ideas at a time. More actions side by side make it hard to see what works, and increase the chance that franchisees drop out because too much is asked of them. Choose one idea for visibility, one for reviews and one for local engagement, and give each idea an owner and an end date. After three months, keep what demonstrably works, drop what delivers nothing and choose the next three. That way, within a year you build a fixed set of routines that every location can sustain, instead of a long list of good intentions forgotten after the first busy week.

How to carry out the ideas without them stalling

Ideas die in execution. So put them in a calendar with an owner for each task, and record what head office does and what the location does. A franchise marketing playbook helps with this. No time? The Franchise-Marketing.nl team will carry it out for you; see the package prices.

Frequently asked questions: franchise marketing ideas

What is the best franchise marketing idea on a small budget?
Fully completing and keeping all Google Business Profiles up to date. It mainly costs time, not media budget, and it immediately improves how your locations appear in Google Maps and AI answers. In the benchmark, this was not in order for 60% of profiles.
How do I get franchisees on board with new ideas?
Show what it delivers for their own location. Start with a pilot among enthusiastic franchisees, share the results in the franchisee advisory council and then make it easy with templates and a fixed calendar.
Should every location carry out the same ideas?
The basics, yes: profiles, reviews and opening hours should be in order everywhere. Local actions and sponsorship may differ, as long as they stay within the brand guidelines.
How much time does this take per location?
The basics take one to two hours per location as a one-off, and after that roughly half an hour per week for reviews and updates. Carried out centrally, that often takes less time per location than when every franchisee works it out alone.
Are these ideas also suitable for franchise brands without a shop?
Yes, with a small adjustment. Franchise brands that work at the customer's home use a service area in Google instead of a visitor address, and focus more on reviews and service area pages.
Which franchise marketing ideas suit which season?
Link ideas to fixed moments in the year. January suits a New Year promotion with a profile check, spring an open day or neighbourhood event, summer adjusted opening hours, autumn a review campaign and December holiday promotions. Always start preparing six weeks ahead, so there is time for templates and approval.
How do you measure whether a franchise marketing idea works?
Choose one figure in advance that should move and compare participating locations with locations that change nothing yet. That way you can separate the result from a seasonal effect or a national campaign. Three months is usually enough to see a trend. Use views, direction requests and calls from the Google Business Profile as a basis.
How many marketing ideas should a franchise brand run at the same time?
Start with no more than three ideas at once: one for visibility, one for reviews and one for local engagement. Give each idea an owner and an end date. After three months, keep what demonstrably works and pick the next three. Running more actions side by side makes measuring difficult and causes franchisees to drop out.
Which ideas help franchise locations get mentioned by ChatGPT?
Write answers for each location to the questions people ask ChatGPT and add an FAQ to every location page. Make sure name, address and phone number are identical everywhere. In addition, test ten fixed questions in ChatGPT, Gemini and Google AI Overviews every month and note which questions the location is mentioned in.
Which franchise marketing ideas require no media budget?
Updating profiles and opening hours and responding to reviews cost no media budget, only time. Social media and email can run without an advertising budget, although paid reach is optional. Local Google Ads need a fixed base budget per location, and local events or sponsorship vary in cost. So start with the low-cost basics, which often deliver results fastest.
